Internet Safety: Staying Safe Online
As a part of Initiative of educating and guiding consumers Consumer VOICE organized Second workshop of Consumer Conversation Series on the Topic of Internet Safety: Staying Safe Online on 21st March 2017 at Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre.
Internet usage has become a part of daily life for an overwhelmingly large number of people around the world. In the era of e-commerce, e-bookings and e-transactions, there is a growing need for greater awareness on how to make Internet safe for users given that businesses, parents, children and governments use it to make their lives more comfortable, convenient, meaningful and informed. Recognizing this need, Consumer VOICE is organizing a Consumer Conversation Series.
The session began at 6:30 PM with tea & networking, followed by Opening Address & Introduction by Mr.Ashim Sanyal, COO, and Consumer VOICE. Thereafter, Ms Rinki Sharma, Head – Projects briefly presented the content and covered five (5) best practices to be safe online –Better Passwords,2 step verification and security keys, protecting your device, spotting scam online, Security & Privacy check up. Then, the panel comprising of Ms Vineeta Dixit - Public Policy, Google, Mr Suhail Siddiqui – Vice President, Just Dial & Mr G M MuthuKumaran - Technical Director, National Informatics Centre addressed the audience and shared their own instances on how to be safe online.
More than 100 participants came to join the event from diverse groups such as students, professionals, academic institutions and consumers.
Participants were very enthusiastic and asked questions to the experts on the various safety aspects and even shared their experiences.
Lastly, the session ended with Note of thanks to panelists & audience. Thereby, the panelists were felicitated by Mr.Anand Pandeya, Director- Outreach, Consumer VOICE. A copy of Google Internet Safety Booklet was also distributed to the audience for more information.
